Privacy
Compix is a design tool that runs in your browser. This page says, in plain words, what happens to your images, your designs and the little we know about you.
The short version
- Your images and designs stay on your device. We never upload them, unless you choose to make a share link, and even then we can't open what we store.
- You can edit and download without an account. If you sign in, our sign-in provider holds your name and email address.
- We count visits to the editor without cookies and without storing IP addresses. We don't sell data and there are no ads.
Your images and designs
When you open an image in Compix, it is read and edited inside your browser, on your own device. It is not sent to our servers or to anyone else's.
Your designs, and the images in them, are saved in your browser's own storage on this device, so your work survives a reload. That is true when you are signed in too: today, designs are kept in this browser on this device. We have no copy, so if you clear this site's data in your browser, the designs are gone and we can't recover them. Download anything you want to keep.
Share links
When you press Copy link, Compix encrypts a copy of the design in your browser and uploads only the encrypted data to our host. The key that opens it is part of the link, after the # sign. Browsers never send that part to a server, so we can't open what we store.
Anyone who has the link can view the design, so share it only with people you mean to. A link made without an account is deleted after 30 days. A link made while signed in lasts until you revoke it, from Shared links in your account menu.
Your account
Signing in is optional. Accounts are handled by Clerk, our sign-in provider. When you sign in with Google or with your email address, Clerk holds your name, your email address and, with Google, your profile picture. We use them to know it's you, show your picture in the editor and keep your share links. You can manage your account from the account menu, or email us to delete it.
Visit counts
The editor counts visits with GoatCounter. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't store IP addresses. It keeps totals, such as which pages are visited, which sites visitors come from, and which browsers, screen sizes and countries they use, not a record of what any one person did.
Hosting
Our site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, it handles the technical details of each request, such as the IP address and browser, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
Cookies and browser storage
We use no advertising or tracking cookies. When you sign in, Clerk sets the cookies needed to keep you signed in. Compix also uses your browser's own storage (IndexedDB, local storage and the cache) to keep your designs, your images and a few settings on this device, and to let the editor load quickly. That storage stays in your browser.
Children
Compix is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly let them create accounts.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, for example in the EU or the UK, you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted and to object to how it is used. We hold very little: your account details, through Clerk, and encrypted share links we can't read. To use any of these rights, email hello@compix.io.
Changes
If what we collect changes, for example if we add a new analytics tool, we'll update this page and the date at the top before it happens.
