Video Trimmer

Trim a video free, in your browser. Your clip opens on the timeline: pull its start and its end in, play it back, done.

A clip with sound dropped on this page opens in Compix on the timeline, its sound under it; the timeline is zoomed in, the end and the start are pulled in with the sound trimmed along, and it downloads as an MP4

How to trim a video

1
Drop your video
Drag it in or click to browse. It opens at its own size with the timeline below it, ready to play.
2
Pull the ends in
Pull the start of the clip on the timeline to cut the opening and its end to cut the tail. The page shows the frame you are cutting at, and the clip stays at 0:00.
3
Download
An MP4 at your video's own size, or a looping GIF. The file you dropped is left as it was.

What happens to your video

The clip and its sound on the timeline at 8.0 s, then trimmed at both ends to 4.0 s, starting at 0:00, the sound trimmed with it
Cut the start and the end
Pull the start of the clip on the timeline to cut the opening and its end to cut the tail. The clip stays at 0:00 and the video ends where the clip does: an 8-second clip trimmed to 4 seconds is a 4-second video. The sound is cut with it.
One clip and its sound on the timeline, then two pages of the same clip, each with its own sound: the first ends before the cut, the second starts after it
Cut out a middle part
Duplicate the page. Trim the first copy to end where the part you don't want begins, and the second to start where it stops. The pages play back to back, so the middle is gone.
The clip you dropped, 8.0 seconds with sound, and the new MP4, 4.0 seconds at 1920 × 1080 with its sound; the original is unchanged
Your original stays as it was
The file you dropped is never changed and never uploaded. The download is a new MP4 at the video's own size, so you can always trim again from the full clip.
Trim a little wider than you think. The whole clip is still there: pull an end back out any time before you download.
Trimming decides what plays, not how big the picture is. The MP4 comes out at the clip's own size, or at 1080p or 720p from Download.

What people trim for

A Reel, a TikTok or a Short that has to fit the platform's limit. The good ten seconds of a long recording. A clip for a presentation or a message, without the fumbling at the start and the reach for the stop button at the end.

More than a trim

Your trimmed clip is already open in the video editor. Put a title on it, make it move, join it to another scene, all before you download.

A clip of a steaming loaf with the title Fresh bread and the words baked today
Titles
Four moments of the title Fresh bread rising in over the clip
Animation
Three moments of a wipe from one scene to the next
Transitions
The same kind of video at four sizes: 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5
Every size

Questions

How do I trim a video?+
Drop it on this page and it opens on the timeline below the video. Pull the start of the clip on the timeline to cut the opening and its end to cut the tail; the frame you are cutting at shows on the page while you pull. Press play to check it, then Download saves an MP4.
Is it free?+
Yes. No account, no watermark, no payment, no trial. Trim and download.
Will trimming reduce the quality?+
The download is a new MP4 made at your video's own size, at 60 frames a second and a high bitrate (16 Mbps), so it looks the same as the part you kept. It is a fresh encode, not a byte-for-byte copy of the original file.
Does trimming change my original file?+
No. The file you dropped is never changed and never uploaded. The trimmed video is a new file, so you can trim again from the full clip any time.
Which formats can I trim?+
MP4 (H.264) and WebM, whatever your browser can play. If it can't play a file, Compix tells you when you add it. The trimmed video saves as MP4, or as a looping GIF.
How do I cut out the middle of a video?+
Trim the clip's end to where the part you don't want begins. Then duplicate the page: on the copy, pull the end back out and pull the start in to where the unwanted part stops. The two pages play one after the other, so the middle is gone.
What is the difference between trimming and cutting?+
Trimming takes time off the start or the end of a clip. Cutting removes a part from the middle, which here is two trimmed copies of the clip played back to back.
Can I trim to an exact second?+
The timeline shows the seconds and the time under the playhead, and you can zoom it in for finer steps. While you pull an end, the page shows the exact frame you are cutting at, and the ends snap to the playhead and to other bars.
Is the sound kept?+
Yes. The sound is trimmed with the picture and comes with the MP4. Volume on the toolbar sets how loud it is, or mutes it. A GIF has no sound.
How long can my video be?+
There is no set limit. The video renders in real time when you download, so a one-minute video takes about a minute.
Does it work on a phone?+
The page and the editor open in a mobile browser. Saving an MP4 needs a browser with WebCodecs, which recent Chrome, Edge and Safari have; a GIF works in any of them.
Are my videos really not uploaded?+
Yes. Everything runs in this browser tab on your own machine. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why there is no file size limit and nothing to delete afterwards.
